Hello! I am so grateful that you are writing this series of tutorials... I have just bought a Contour Shuttle Xpress and like other users I have found that the provided settings are useless.

I bought an Xpress rather than the Shuttle Pro v2 for several reasons - budgetary as I am unemployed and have been for some time since moving cities and states... I do not have large hands and found that the Xpress is far more manageable for me than the Pro... and both my wrists are badly damaged as a result of working in a highspeed data entry and processing job at a government department that worked its contractors to the bone. I must avoid using computer devices that require me to place my hands flat in the classic hands-down mouse user position and the Xpress works better for me than the Pro in that way. It is a pity that the Xpress only has 5 buttons compared to the Pro's 156, but c'est la vie.

I am really looking forward to parts 3, 4 and the downloads of your tutorial series, and I very much hope that I will be able to apply what you are writing about to my Shuttle Xpress too.

"Part 2 & 3 will dive into several different FCP workflows using a ShuttlePRO.
Part 4 will tie together these workflows using “Switch Settings”.
When we get finished with all this, there will be downloads."

I too, feel that too many cd's can be very confusing. Early in my music collection, I invested in the large, holds 120+ cd's folders. Now my biggest problem is the labels chipping off of old cd's! All the information is stored on the label, so it essentially leads to dead cd's. Master of Puppets indeed....

hmmm the death of the concept album..
the death of the record store.
i have been thinking about this a lot, actually.
as an avid music fan, it took years for me to finally get behind the digital/mp3 revolution
(sure, I had napster and ways to pirate music but I continued to buy albums/cds regularly)
and now I have bought two albums on iTunes. I know I have been buying less and less tangible CDs.
the main thing for me is that they take up so much space.. i have over 400 cds and after awhile, they're hard to keep track of (maybe it's just me and my disorganization, but I have misplaced a lot of my music..).
i struggle with it though.. i think it's sad that CDs are becoming less of a commodity. i DO appreciate cd covers/design, etc. and I love a good concept album.

Great to find your site - the Contour has a lot of potential but takes a bit of headbanging to set up properly. I'm looking forward to the rest of your series too!

thanks - Chris

Wow. I was afraid the world had forgotten about the Contour Shuttle, and using it with FCP, when along comes your article. I am suffering my own challenges programming it to work with FCS2, so I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of your series. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

I completely agree with you. I've never witnessed such one-sided olympic coverage. I remember growing up and hearing people's stories, watching other countries, experiencing the great athletes from the rest of the world. It's so frustrating watching American athletes taping their ankles while in the background I can see other gymnasts actually doing their routines.
