So little time, so much to do, does this sound familiar? We live in a continual swarm of information, and much of the time, we spend in a receptive state, watching and observing the streams. The big issue of course is relevance. What is relevant to my goals and aspirations? Everything else is distraction.
Yet, distraction comes in many flavors, often times, along side our relevant information streams. www.reddit.com offers many things which are relevant and purposeful to my day to day interests, but a large amount of content also falls under the merely entertaining and distracting.
A large amount of the distraction falls under intention. Oft times, when we go looking for a distraction, is when it finds us. Yet, an easily accessible favicon provides me that jolt of infotainment juice, and my brain knows that fulfilling a craving for easily-digestable psuedo-learning is merely a click away. How does one deal with this constant battle between willpower and information addiction?
Simple, remove it from your peripheral attention. I moved all my social / news sites to a bookmark folder, instead of right there on my bookmark bar. That way, only by direct intention, do I delve into the world of salacious wonder that awaits when I visit slashdot.org.
Only by managing your information inflow, can you begin to manage your information outflow. This is my focused intention with this space at this time. Lets see what happens with it.
